Readability Bookmarklet

Early Morning Reading

has a very useful bookmarklet that allows you to make most web pages more readable. You have to go to their

page first to get the bookmarklet, because they will customize it to the font and text width of your choosing. The bookmarklet is like a regular  web bookmark, but it only contains some Javascript. After setting up your preferences on the Readability page, you drag the “Readability” button to your bookmarks. I renamed mine [R] to save some space.

Then, when you are on a rather busy web page you’d like to read, simply click the bookmarklet, and the page will be reformatted to your specifications, without all the other stuff on the side. If you’d like to see the page in its original format, just reload.

Unfortunately, it only shows one article at a time if you are looking at a blog, like Posterous. You’ll have to click the actual article before clicking Readability.
